Jai jai Shri Hit. Whoever wishes for eternal happiness and peace of mind, who remains steadfast in devotion - abide moment by moment in Shyama Shyam, Shyama Shyam. If you want to remain happy always, want to be filled with bliss, and want to remain eternally, eternally blissful, if you want peace of mind and peace, then treasure every single moment: Shyama Shyam, Shyama Shyam, Radha Vallabh, Shri Harivansh, Radha Vallabh, Shri Harivansh. Remain devoted to the remembrance of God all the time.

It is an easy thing to say: remain devoted to the remembrance of God all the time. But it is a very difficult thing. Look for yourselves. See for yourself how many minutes you actually meditate on Sachcidananda God.

This is why Narayan Swami said: Narayan is very difficult; the path to meeting Hari—in this I place my feet backward; first give my head. You must die, yogi, you must die—die as Gorakh died.

Gorakh Nath Ji says: you must die, you must die—die while living, that is, become free of ego. Die in the way Gorakh Nath died. He is saying: talking about the path of God is very simple. But the real thing is that walking the path of God is very difficult. We have seen this our whole life. Just a slight slip and you slide, landing who knows where.

Just a slight slip like that and maya strikes you down. Many times a sadhak hears the glory of naam and wants to do naam jap, but his attachment to worldly pleasures does not allow him to do naam jap. For instance, you hear the glory and think, "We should also do bhajan." You do bhajan for a couple of days. Then the attachment to worldly pleasures creates such impurity that there is no interest in naam jap. There is no love for naam jap.

This is why renunciation of worldly attachments is absolutely necessary for naam jap. Worldly attachments are those that turn you away from God. Worldly pursuits that are in accordance with God do not need to be renounced.

Worldly pursuits in accordance with dharma increase devotion to God, and worldly pursuits contrary to dharma become obstacles to devotion to God. All bad thoughts and defects come in three ways. First, from the impressions of past births—if our past life was impure, then in this life unwillingly bad thoughts will come. Second, from food—if our food is not right, then our thoughts become polluted. Third, from bad company—if our association is not right, then our thoughts become polluted.

A person who does naam jap must destroy three desires. One desire arising from food, one desire arising from past births, and one desire arising from bad company. The one related to food can be corrected in a day or two. The one related to bad company must be handled very carefully. Because if bad company drags on, our life will be ruined. One must fight the desire from past births. For many years it becomes subtle but is not destroyed. And when all three desires are destroyed, at that very moment naam will taste as sweet as amrit to you. You will not want to leave it even for a moment.

This is why let us keep our attention on food, company, and inner thoughts. Let our food be pure, let our thoughts be pure, let our company be pure.

Usually everyone has excessive desire for money. Those three things are obstacles, and these three things are double obstacles. If one is a woman, there is desire for a man; if one is a man, there is desire for a woman. There is desire to earn money, accumulate money, increase money—let naam become your focus.

Now a sadhak of naam must overcome these three things. First those three and these three—if one is a householder, then with restraint and according to dharma, associate with your spouse and do bhajan, then there is no obstacle. If one is detached, then take refuge in God and try to bear it.

If there is wealth and one is a householder, then earn according to dharma, and from the wealth earned according to dharma, spend 10%, one rupee per hundred, on the service of the poor, the orphans, the cows, the saints, the sick—spend on these. You will definitely get benefit. See for yourself, you will get benefit very soon.

If you have decided on charity—that today we will remain hungry, fast, and give food to others—then one day you will have a continuous feast running at your home. Write down what we are saying. If you want to become wealthy, then we are telling you the true method. Start doing charitable service. Start doing charity from five rupees.

In our Vrindavan, on this side of Seva Kunj, there is an ashram whose name is Nathiyabai. When Nathiyabai came here, she thought, "What bhajan will come from me? Let it become service to saints—that is my fortune." Now for service to saints there is need of money, so what did she do? By the Yamuna bank she collected dung cakes—when animals defecate it dries, that is called upla—and she would get flour from the Braj residents and make rotis, then invite saints. Now she would make rotis while doing naam jap in such a way that whichever saint received them would praise them. Soon, without being invited, saints started coming—two came, four came—she never refused anyone.

Whenever anyone came, whether they came at night, she would make and give them roti. Gradually people came to know, and bags of dal and flour, tins of ghee started arriving there. Gradually it became an ashram.

One day, after ten years of service had passed, the time of fruit came. So she had gone to get wheat. When wheat season comes for the Braj residents, from their fields they give 5 kilos, 10 kilos, everything as a donation.

So she was coming comfortably in a cart, a bullock cart filled with wheat. Suddenly a cloud came and drops started falling.

It became dark. She became a bit worried—how would the wheat reach safely? It had become dark and she had no light with her. Just then she saw a 14-year-old boy with an umbrella, who said, "Mother, fix this umbrella in the cart, and I will go ahead with a lamp. My house is nearby." She asked, "Where is your house?" He said, "Right near Bihari Ji's place." He accompanied her to Nathiyabai Ji's ashram and left with a smile.

Now in Nathiyabai's mind was this thought: at 8 o'clock at night, how could a boy have a lamp and an umbrella? Some boy he was, but why did he love me so much that he gave me his lamp and umbrella?

When she went for darshan of Bihari Ji the next day, in Bihari Ji's darshan she saw a lantern and an umbrella. She said, "Oh, it was you!" I understood. I had been suspecting, but was not certain. Today it is confirmed. Bhagwan is ever ready to serve those who engage in the service of His devotees. Just as in the case of Trilochan Ji, He Himself served the saints in the form of Antarayami. Therefore, if a householder wishes to conquer the temptation of wealth, to overcome greed and fulfill the need for wealth, one must certainly undertake the service of saints, service to the sick, and the service of cows. The scriptures command ten percent, but not ten percent of dishonestly earned money.

If you give from dishonestly earned money, you too will go to hell, and whoever accepts that donation will also fall. Even one rupee from righteous earnings, if you give it to someone, will be worth millions. Do not think that one rupee out of a hundred is insignificant. No. If with one rupee you fill someone's belly, or if you get one kilogram of salt and donate it to a community kitchen, that is a very pure deed.

The third is fame and renown. This is a fruit that comes to the virtuous soul. It will not happen by your mere desire. It happens through penance and merit.

For instance, in this birth someone may be deeply engaged in vice and sin. Yet they have a great name, great wealth, great splendor. This is because they are enjoying the merit from their past births. This is not from the present. When the fruits of present actions come, then one will receive them. One cannot know into what life form one will go.

The merit from the past brings fame in the present, brings renown. Or if in this very birth bhajan becomes so powerful, then—

बिस्तरे सब जग विमल कीरति साधु संगति ना टरे बास वृंदा विपिन पावे श्री राधिका जो कृपा करे।
May one's pure fame spread throughout the world, may the company of saints never be lost, may one dwell in the forests of Vrindavan and experience the grace of Shri Radha.

One's immaculate fame will spread throughout the world, and if Ladli shows mercy, then the three, and then again the three gunas—sattva, rajas, and tamas.

If you do not attend to these three gunas—sattva, rajas, and tamas—they will devastate your bhajan. Rajas will come and manifest desire and craving. Tamas will come and manifest sleep, laziness, and wandering. Sattva will come and there will be some progress in bhajan. But even sattva is only slightly helpful in attaining Bhagwan. Attaining Bhagwan happens only when one transcends the three gunas.

Until we overcome all three gunas, we cannot succeed. When we gain victory over these three, then the bhajan of Triloksinath is established.

The mind is constantly absorbed in the bhajan of Bhagwan. Many obstacles come in the path of Bhagwan. But if one has courage, they are all destroyed. Courage means not abandoning the naam. Many obstacles come because when one walks the path of goodness, those with wicked thoughts, wicked conduct, and wicked nature naturally harbor hatred toward saints. They harbor hatred toward the path of truth.

They will mock you. They will slander you. They will curse you. They will wish to cause you suffering. But you must have courage. People mock greatly. Even one's own have hurled abuses.

When wandering along the Ganges, people would hurl abuses. Seeing a young sadhak alone, they would hurl abuses. Sometimes there was no food, there was a harsh cold. While people were hurling abuses, he would pray alone to Bhagwan in solitude. He had heard that this was a path of great joy, yet here he was receiving abuses and finding no food, suffering from the cold. Then understanding came from within—this is an external matter, look to what is within. The words of the saints are never false. With that faith alone, one's life's journey continues forward. If difficulties come in our path, we should not turn away, should not abandon.

Do not abandon the naam jap. Those obstacles will all be destroyed. Hold firm faith. If you abandon bhajan upon seeing obstacles, then the obstacles will defeat you. Otherwise, it is written in our Vani—

राधा वल्लभ भजत भज भली भली सब होए।
One who practices the bhajan of Radha Vallabh finds all things turn auspicious.

जीते विनायक शुभ अशुभ विघ्न करे नहीं कोई विघ्न करे नहीं कोई डरे कलिकाल कष्ट भय हरे सकल संताप रस हरि नाम जपत जय।
He who practices naam jap achieves victory; no obstacles, no fears, the sorrows of Kali Yuga are removed, all suffering is dispelled.

His is the victory. Therefore, thoughtfully walk the path of Bhagwan and continue to jap the naam abundantly.
