One day a disciple asked a saint: "It has been 18 years since I took initiation from you, but I have not received any benefit. Do you recite the mantra I gave you in the assembly?" He said, "Yes, I recite it. What did you tell me?" "Ram Ram Ram, as you instructed me." He said, "Do this: for 24 hours, I swear to you, what has not benefited you for 18 years — now do not recite this naam for 24 hours. Come back tomorrow; I will give you a mantra that will give benefit very quickly. Do you trust the guru?" He said, "Yes." He said, "I swear to you — for 24 hours do not recite it even once." And after 18 years of practice towards Shri Ram — he wept, he cried out. He said, "Gurudev, by your oath, don't make me take this oath. I cannot live without this now." He said, "What did you gain in 18 years? This you gained in 18 years: that now you cannot speak without saying Ram Ram. This is the greatest siddhi. Don't you understand? And love has awakened for the divine naam. You broke even my oath and became devoted to naam recitation. This means naam has taken its place on your tongue.
Now you will attain Param Pad. Now you will attain bliss.
