Unable to Practice Firm Sadhana Due to Excessive Attachment to the Wife
Shri Hit Radha Keli Kunj, Vrindavan. Intimate dialogue with Pujya Shri Hit Premanand Govind Sharan Ji Maharaj. Sadhaks ask questions about their life and sadhana, and Maharaj Ji resolves them.
The Complete Discourse
Radhe Radhe Maharaj Ji, countless prostrations at your feet. Maharaj Ji, there is great attachment of this body to the wife. Because of this, Maharaj Ji, there is a loss in bhajan. Unable to practice firm sadhana. It is not that there is discord between husband and wife today. The relationship between husband and wife is being disrupted. Rather than violence occurring between husband and wife, it is better that husband and wife love each other. Wife loves husband. Both wife and husband should try to see God in each other's hearts and love each other wholeheartedly.
There is no obstacle. This has been the way of our eternal household dharma. To love one's wife, one's children, one's family. That very thing is breaking down. That is what we are talking about. Over small matters, brother is killing brother. Over a little land, over small things, brother is killing brother. To satisfy her desire, a wife is killing her husband. A husband is killing his wife because he is not getting his way. That is what we want—that you love each other. Love is not an obstacle.
Don't worry. Love each other and dedicate that love to God. Practice naam jap, earn your livelihood, and live together as husband and wife and family with great love. This is the way of our eternal dharma. This quarreling, fighting, violence, infidelity, boyfriends, girlfriends, wandering here and there—this is not our way. Practice brahmacharya. When you marry, love your wife. Love your husband and regard the children you have as the form of God, and practice naam jap and attain liberation. This is for household dharma. It is no great matter. You practice naam jap, live lovingly.
How wonderful. May our ears always hear that we love our husband greatly. We love our wife greatly. Only then will our heart be at peace. Otherwise, all these terrible things that are coming—this is a disgrace to our dharma. This is a blemish. These are not good things. Karan Singh Atwani Ji, Radhe Radhe, Radhe Radhe. Maharaj Ji, Maharaj Ji, you are saying that when you teach children, there is so much involvement in that, that the daily practice is hindered somewhere. That is why dissatisfaction and worry about what will happen after death troubles us greatly, Maharaj.
Yes, absolutely it should. This is a very great matter. We often tell our loved ones one thing—do you remember you will die. So the person gets offended, doesn't want to hear—why do you talk of death—but the thought of death is what can save us. I have to die. If I don't meet Shri Krishna, if I don't meet the Lord, if He is not pleased, then what is the benefit of my life? My life will be wasted. So at other times, practice naam jap, and when you are involved in studies, teaching children, see God in the children too. See that Supreme Being, and after you have spent hours in studying, dedicate that to God afterwards. Like if we have done five hours of teaching, then after those five hours, O Lord, O Compassionate One, O Wah Guru, these five hours that we have been teaching the students, this service too is dedicated to You. Then that also becomes bhajan. Work dedicated becomes bhajan, and keep practicing naam jap in between. If continuous naam jap is not possible, then whatever time we get, let us devote that time to naam jap, and dedicate the remaining time to God, then all our time will go to God.
That is why we will attain God-realization. And this pain should exist. But this pain exists in a pure heart. It doesn't exist in everyone's heart. Those with impure hearts—we will see when we die. But those with a pure heart have a burning feeling—if we are not able to accomplish in this birth, then in the next birth, who knows what kind of womb we will get. Will we be able to practice bhajan in that womb? Let's say we are born as animals or birds—will we be able to practice bhajan then? Will we be able to practice sadhana? No, we will only experience the fruits of karma. So having received a human life, we should practice God-bhajan so much that in this very birth we attain God-realization. At the very least, God-realization will happen. With this belief, without effort, constant remembrance of God—this means you have become worthy of God-realization. Walking, sitting, moving about—if our remembrance of God is always there, then God-realization is accomplished. Honor of saints and sages and toward all beings the mood of God [unclear sound] and naam jap—from this alone will God-realization happen. Taste for the name, service to Vaishnavs and compassion toward beings—this is the greatest work.
If compassion toward beings and taste for the name and service to Vaishnavs and saints and sadhu service and abundant naam jap and a feeling of benevolence toward all—then God will surely be attained. In household dharma, there is no need to complicate things greatly. Practice naam jap and dedicate your work to God. This alone will bring God-realization. But diet should be pure. Many people want to do bhakti but don't want to reform their diet. If you have impure things in your diet like meat, eggs, alcohol, and you think you will also do bhakti, it is impossible.
You become what you eat. Therefore, we should not cause suffering to any creature. Meat is violence against a creature. You may not do it yourself, but if you are eating it, then you will receive the punishment of violence. Therefore, keep your diet pure. Keep your thoughts pure. Offer your actions to God and do naam jap, then even while living in the household, you will attain God.
Yes, yes, the diet is pure. Non-veg and so on, or very nice, very nice. And if, let us imagine, you eat fast food or such things from a pure shop, from a pure place—pure vegetarian—yes, and if you offer it to God, like if you take it in your hand, first remember the Guru, offer it to them, then receive it—that is exactly right.
