The Complete Discourse
If you are blessed with satsang, bad company too will try to show its effect. Your devotion, your feeling should be so secure that bad company's influence does not affect our mind. As Rahim says:
जो रहीम उत्तम प्रकति का कर सकत कुसंग चंदन विष व्यापत नहीं लपटे रहत भुजंग।
Those of excellent nature can (withstand) bad company — sandalwood, poison does not penetrate; serpents remain coiled around it.
Large hooded serpents coil around sandalwood to obtain its coolness. But sandalwood gives its coolness; it does not absorb the defect of (the serpent's) poison. Similarly, if a person of bad company ever sits with us, may it be for their well-being. If we never allow their inauspicious, atheistic words to lodge in our mind or in our ears, then our mind will eagerly move forward in following the guru's commands.
