When you go to the toilet, wear only as many clothes as you can wash. Otherwise, nowadays with closed bathroom arrangements, you bathe there, wipe with a towel, and then put on your clothes. If you are wearing clothes that became unclean at the toilet, then you are impure. The more you maintain purity, the better your thoughts will flow. When you urinate, you are doing it while standing. Urine is splashing on your feet. Then you have not purified your urinary organ. You have not washed it. Then you have not washed your hands, you have not performed achamanā, you are impure.
After eating something, if you have not performed achamanā, if you have not rinsed your mouth properly, your mouth is impure. If your mind is thinking dirty thoughts, then it is impure. The more you maintain purity, the more you will come to experience (divine understanding). Now, for instance, when food has been given to us, we will be able to tell what the one who made it was thinking, how they were making it. If according to our tradition the clothes are pure, if everything is completely purified and complete purity is maintained, then immediately you will know. So if we remain thus pure, then we can know our own mind. We can know our own intellect. We can engage mind and intellect in God.
Now, where has our mind gone? That is why maintaining purity is absolutely essential.
